National Family Medicine Residency

Rotations in BOLD are hospital based. Rotations in italics may be outpatient, but will need hospital access.

Year 1

  • Internal Medicine (of FM Service) | 8 weeks
  • Critical Care | 4 weeks
  • Emergency Medicine | 4 weeks
  • OB/GYN | 4 weeks
  • Pediatrics | 4 weeks
  • General Surgery | 4 weeks
  • Opthamology and ENT | 2 weeks each
  • Elective/Vacation | 4 weeks (2 weeks vacation)
  • Elective/Vacation | 4 weeks (1 week vacation)
  • Community Oriented Primary Care* | 12 weeks

Year 2

  • Internal Medicine (of FM Service) | 8 weeks
  • Emergency Medicine | 4 weeks
  • Pediatrics | 4 weeks -- inpatient preferred
  • OB/GYN | 4 weeks
  • Orthopedics/Sports Medicine | 4 weeks
  • General Surgery | 4 weeks
  • Urology | 4 weeks
  • Elective+ | 4 weeks
  • Community Oriented Primary Care* | 12 weeks
  • Vacation/CME Conference | 4 weeks (3 weeks vacation/1 week CME)

Year 3

  • Inpatient FM or IM Service | 8 weeks
  • OB/GYN | 4 weeks
  • Pediatrics | 4 weeks
  • Pediatric Elective | 4 weeks
  • Internal Medicine (outpatient) | 4 weeks
  • Elective+ | 12 weeks
  • Community Oriented Primary Care* | 12 weeks
  • Vacation/CME Conference | 4 weeks (3 weeks vacation/1 week CME)

*Community oriented primary care must include 100 hours of geriatrics -- which may be met by home care, nursing home visits, or others. It must also include 20 hours of practice management. Remainder of time may include continuity clinic, public health, or other options as specified by the CHC.

  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology

Or other electives as local resources allow. (Residents need exposure to each of the above disciplines in the course of their training).

Didactics will include 3 hours per week via distance learning activities, backed up and applied during 2 hours per week live activities at each site. We will include a public health curriculum.
