The Wright Center practice map

In Northeast Pennsylvania, our residents and fellows train and take care of patients in The Wright Center for Community Health’s primary care practices and school-based health centers, which are all designated Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alikes. The Wright Center for Community Health’s network of community health clinics in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wayne counties primarily serves patients from Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. The medical services our physician learners provide target health disparities and work to empower underserved regions with high-quality, nondiscriminatory medical care regardless of a patient’s insurance status or ability to pay.

Northeast Pennsylvania training sites include regional and national hospital systems, as well as the federal Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center.

All of our clinical learning environments provide hands-on experience with diverse and medically underserved populations, including those patients challenged by the negative impacts of disparate socio-economic determinants of health, including income inequality, food insecurity, and homelessness.

We teach our physician learners a medical home model approach to primary care, meaning patients receive their medical, dental, behavioral health, and recovery services in one location and all under the same roof. We serve our patients through their lifespan, from pediatrics to geriatrics and everything in between.

Additional services we provide include a Ryan White HIV Clinic, an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Unit, a Pennsylvania Center of Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder, a preventive Lifestyle Medicine curriculum, and an emerging Street Medicine Program.

Most recently, we introduced a 34-foot mobile medical and dental unit, called “Driving Better Health,” which provides medical and dental services to hard-to-reach populations, meeting patients in the communities where they live, learn, and work.

The Wright Center’s innovative learning environments throughout Northeast Pennsylvania provide diverse clinical experiences for physician learners in the community locations that need them most.

National Sites

Our unique National Family Medicine Residency (NFMR) Program was established in 2013. Our residents live and work in four regions across the United States while addressing physician workforce shortages and escalating rural healthcare disparities.

Our innovative national curriculum immerses residents in high-performing, certified Patient-Centered Medical Homes, Community Health Centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers and Look-Alikes, as well as community-based hospitals, providing care to the nation’s most vulnerable populations. In February 2021, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) granted our pioneering NFMR program a full 10-year accreditation, the highest rating available.
