From interns to team members
Our internship program provides hands-on experience for high school and college students that leads to rewarding careers in healthcare
Our robust internship program provides regional high school and college students with hands-on experience across a wide range of health care-related careers. In summer 2025, 26 interns joined teams across the enterprise, gaining exposure to departments, including administration, clinical, finance, legal, marketing and communications, and more.
A hallmark of the program is the Internship Capstone Project, in which participants explore a focused area of learning and present their findings to board members, colleagues, and community partners at the conclusion of their internship. The culminating experience helps interns build confidence, sharpen professional skills, and develop capabilities that extend well beyond our program.
Below, four former interns – now full-time employees with us – reflect on what they learned and what inspired them to launch their careers with us.

Why did you decide to work here full time? I have appreciated the connections I have made over several summers here, and I have been impacted by the organization’s mission for many years. Being able to contribute in a much more meaningful way is very rewarding. I can certainly see how my actions and my work directly contribute to carrying out the mission.
What skills did you learn as an intern that are helping you in your job now? Getting familiar with the intricacies of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and other programs has really helped. I think most internships teach you professionalism and communication skills, but being familiar with how to navigate a document, spreadsheet, and other work-related documents is something that is often overlooked as a skill that internships teach you.

Alex Franklin

Internship: Summer 2025, Information Technology (IT) Department
Current job: Hired in December of 2025 as an IT/AI specialist in the IT Department
Why did you decide to work here full time? I really enjoyed the collaborative and supportive work environment here. My main capstone project involved integrating AI across various departments. Throughout the process, I worked with multiple people across the IT Department and other departments across the enterprise, gaining valuable insights and ideas.
What skills did you learn as an intern that are helping you in your job now? I really strengthened my communication skills by explaining my project to people with different levels of expertise. I also got much better at problem-solving, as different problems presented themselves, and I learned that the first solution was not always the best one.

Why did you decide to work for TWC full time? I wanted to be part of a mission-driven organization that is actively changing and improving healthcare in our communities. What stood out to me most is the willingness to think differently, innovate, and focus on long-term solutions that genuinely improve the lives of patients and the communities we serve. I was drawn to the fast-paced, collaborative environment and the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that contribute to healthcare innovation and strategy.
What skills did you learn as an intern that are helping you in your job now? Working in a fast-paced environment taught me how to adapt quickly, communicate effectively with different teams, and stay organized while managing multiple responsibilities at once. I also learned the importance of accountability, professionalism, and attention to detail – especially in an environment where small issues can have a larger impact on operations and patient experience.
