Enrique Samonte, MD

Family Medicine Physician and Faculty

Meet Enrique

Enrique Samonte, MD joined the organization in 2018. As a regional family medicine associate program director and physician, he assists in administrative and clinical oversight of the educational program. He also oversees workforce development and community partnerships to enhance graduate medical education and primary care in the region. Dr. Samonte is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) certified and can assist individuals struggling with substance use disorder.

In addition to his teaching duties, Dr. Samonte has made geriatric care a focal point of his work. Along with a growing number of physicians within The Wright Center for Community Health, he has made home health a part of his job description. “Yes, I make house calls, like something out of the 1950s,” Dr. Samonte says.  “It’s very enlightening to see how people exist in their own surroundings. It could even be as simple as helping them put their pills in the right boxes. It’s a way for us to make an even bigger impact on the community.”

Before joining The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education, Dr. Samonte practiced with Geisinger Hazleton Family Medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas, in Manila, Philippines. He is a graduate of the Kistler Family Medicine Residency at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre where he was Chief Resident.

Dr. Samonte is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Board of Family Physicians and the Philippine Medical Society, as well as a diplomate of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology.
