Dr. Dempsey joined The Wright Center for Community Health in 2014, bringing over 35 years of extensive experience serving patients in northeastern Pennsylvania. He oversaw the expansion of The Wright Center’s Clarks Summit practice into providing pediatric services and now works hand in hand with pediatricians, certified registered nurse practitioners and many medical residents to provide comprehensive healthcare services for the whole family. His philosophy for patient care is, “To truly care for patients and be effective in establishing wellness and curing illness, we have to treat the whole patient. This includes caring for them physically, emotionally and spiritually.” Dr. Dempsey is also Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) certified and can assist individuals struggling with substance use disorder.
Dr. Dempsey earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Scranton and graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 1981. He completed his residency at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Hospital Center in 1985 and returned to Scranton to work in private practice with the Lackawanna Medical Group until 1992. He served as medical director of WorkMed for Occupational Health until 1994, then became an emergency department staff physician at Community Medical Center in Scranton. In 2010 he joined PrimeMed Medical Group in Wilkes-Barre
Based on his extensive experience, Dr. Dempsey believes the quality of care patients will find in the area is excellent, noting “We have great resources for coronary heart disease and growing programs to treat stroke and cancer.” Dr. Dempsey has also worked as Medical Director of Community Life Support Ambulance Services in Clarks Summit, director of the Human Performance Lab at Marywood University and director of Primecare Correctional Care in Pittston. He also currently serves as the Athletic Team Physician for Lackawanna College and Marywood University.
Dr. Dempsey is married with eight children and has a large extended family in the area. Over the years, he and his wife have been dedicated to helping orphans abroad relocate to America for adoption. He belongs to the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and the Physicians’ Catholic Guild. Dr. Dempsey enjoys boating, skiing, golfing and dancing.
