About

Marwan A. Wafa, Ph.D., is the former Penn State Scranton chancellor. After receiving a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Kuwait University, he then earned a masters of science in management and a doctorate in industrial management, both from Clemson University in South Carolina. 

Wafa took the helm at Penn State Scranton in July 2015 and has been actively involved with leaders and organizations across the region. He’s served as a board member for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, United Neighborhood Centers, the Lackawanna County Area on Aging, and more. In 2019, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania honored him with a distinguished service award. He retired as chancellor at Penn State Scranton in 2024. 

Additionally, Wafa has participated in interfaith activities to build bridges of understanding and coexistence between people of all faiths. He also gave many presentations on topics about economic development, the rights of women in Islam, and the Middle East. He resides in Scranton with his family.
