‘Sharing the Experience’

Taibah Chaudhary, M.D., center, was the first sister to complete The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine Residency Program when she graduated during our 46th annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 21. Maimona Chaudhary, far right, is scheduled to complete her residency training in 2026 and Omaima Chaudhary in 2027.
Three sisters establish home away from home in The Wright Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Program
As a child, Taibah Chaudhary ’25, M.D., never considered a career in medicine. However, she ultimately paved the way for her sisters, both of whom had aspired to be doctors since a young age.
Dr. Chaudhary and her sisters – Maimona Chaudhary ’26, M.D., and Omaima Chaudhary ’27, M.D. – are completing their residencies in The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education’s Internal Medicine Residency Program in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, the trio has leaned on one another while developing the skills necessary to advance their careers as compassionate physicians.
“I honestly never thought about becoming a doctor until the summer I applied for medical school,” Dr. Taibah Chaudhary said. “Both my sisters were always sure they wanted to become physicians. I was influenced by them and I found a purpose in my life.”
Dr. Maimona Chaudhary discovered her passion for medicine early on – well before Dr. Taibah Chaudhary entered the field. Her career path took shape in high school when she began volunteering at a hospital, an experience that solidified her commitment to a career in medicine. She went on to earn her medical degree from Windsor University School of Medicine in St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean, graduating in 2021.
Dr. Taibah Chaudhary also began her medical journey at Windsor University before joining The Wright Center’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. She was drawn to the program by our mission to improve the health and welfare of our communities through responsive, whole-person health services for all and the sustainable renewal of an inspired, competent workforce that is privileged to serve – values that resonated deeply with her as an emerging physician.
One year later, Dr. Maimona Chaudhary followed in her footsteps, also entering our Internal Medicine Residency Program, attracted by the program’s supportive environment and healthy work-life balance. Soon after, the youngest of the sisters, Dr. Omaima Chaudhary, who earned her medical degree from the University of Limerick School of Medicine in Ireland, also joined the residency program.
“I definitely felt more prepared joining the program with my sisters ahead of me,” she said. “I felt like I already knew the ins and outs of the program, having heard so much from them.”
The sisters say their parents are delighted that their daughters are all in one place, making family visits and vacations easier to coordinate. While they live separately, the Chaudhary sisters spend much of their free time together shopping, exploring local parks and cafes, and – what Dr. Taibah Chaudhary calls “most important” – sharing meals.
“The Wright Center allows for the perfect work and life balance, so having family around is helpful in terms of emotional support,” Dr. Taibah Chaudhary added. “Without having my sisters around, I would have to make all the hard decisions alone. I’d miss not sharing the experience with them.”
Having studied abroad in Ireland, Dr. Omaima Chaudhary understands the challenges of settling into a new community. She said their bond is evident to their fellow residents and staff, especially when they complete rotations in the same health center or hospital. She especially enjoys spending time with her sisters on the weekends, when one will make a meal and invite the other two over to eat and watch movies.
“It’s hard to make friends and establish a support system,” she said. “I had to do that as a medical student, and it’s an experience I’m happy to avoid repeating.”
Initially, Dr. Taibah Chaudhary worried that her presence at The Wright Center might unduly influence her sisters’ decisions about their future careers as physicians. But her concerns quickly faded.
“We grew up in a strong, opinionated household, and we have very different personalities,” Dr. Taibah Chaudhary said. “Also, having different goals and interests for our futures helped us carve a unique place here.”
True to form, Dr. Taibah Chaudhary once again led the way, graduating from our Internal Medicine Residency Program in June 2025. She is now preparing for an endocrinology fellowship at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her interest in the specialty field was sparked by her experience working with Mihail Voica, M.D., an endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism specialist at Geisinger Wilkes-Barre.
As Dr. Taibah Chaudhary moves forward in her career, her sisters are already contemplating their next step – ones that will likely take them in different directions and locations.
“At this point, we are interested in different specialties,” Dr. Maimona Chaudhary acknowledged. “Throughout our time in residency here, we influence each other by sharing knowledge, discussing patients, promoting positive work culture, and taking each other’s feedback.”
